Dermatology is a medical specialty that deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and pathologies of the skin. The specialist doctor is called a dermatologist and is responsible for diagnosing and treating possible skin diseases.

The skin has a surface between 1.6 and 2 square meters in extension, it is divided into layers, it houses millions of cells, nerve endings, glands, hair follicles and blood vessels and it is one of the main barriers we have to protect ourselves from possible conditions or external aggressive agents.

As subspecialties, dermatology has two fields:

• Cosmetic dermatology: which is responsible for alleviating scars left by acne, for example, chemical peeling, hyaluronic acid, among others.
• Surgical dermatology: this subspecialty is focused on reparative surgical, oncological and aesthetic procedures.
